My way of working
When working with a new group or organisation, I always start with a (brief) intake call with the organiser of the training to make sure I understand the needs and context of the training and the group.
To make the training as relevant as possible to the participants, I also like to gather some brief information from the participants about their experience and/or their challenges on the topic in advance of the training. My training programs usually involve some amount of preparatory work. For a public speaking training for instance, I often ask participants to prepare a short speech, watch a video and do some brief self analysis.
Whether online or face to face, I use a participatory approach, and work mostly in permanent dialogue with the group. The sessions themselves will include moments for individual reflection, sharing of input in the group and some exercises that will be done in small groups or couples. I give tips, models, tools, thoughts, and feedback, but ask the group for their opinion, feedback and active participation as well. I do this in a constructive, safe, and positive environment, where people feel welcome to share what they think, and the mood is light, but the topics are dealt with seriously.
The sessions include concrete takeaways and actions for the participants - they always need to put their learnings into practice. I generally prepare a concise slidedeck and main learnings of the group for their reference afterwards.
